4. When should my child move up an Interclub Grade?
Again numerous factors previously mentioned come in. Indicative only:
If last season, a child won around 75% or more of their games playing at number 1 or number 2 in the team order, we think about moving the child up to the next grade and if a move is made, which position the child will hold in the team, number 1 to 4.
If last season, a child won around 75% or more of their games playing at number 3 or 4 in the team order, we think about placing them either higher up the team order playing at number 1 or 2, or, moving up to the next grade playing at number 3 or 4.
It is important for children to stay in touch with their peers - broadly speaking in four different groups: young primary school children, older primary school children, intermediate school children and high school children. Children learn at different rates. Children also come to tennis at different ages.
More often than not we move children up a grade so that they can keep up with their peers. For example a child may have only won one game in green grade that season, we move them up to Youth Grade to keep up with their peers if would be happier there - winning and losing isn't their main focus. One doesn't have to win all the time to develop and enjoy their game. Main thing is for children to enjoy playing the game of tennis and be happy were they are at.
