End of Term 1, 2018
Relay for Life 24 March 2018
Wow 232 continuous laps were walked by the team for the Relay for Life. As most walked in pairs or more that figure is more than doubled.
The course changed a couple of times in late afternoon due to the conditions becoming muddy (after torrential rain which the Erbs bore most of the downpours!) therefore hard to calculate the actual kms walked however the average person walks 1 km in 10 minutes. We therefore walked 72 continuous kms and by adding up each individuals kms the team would have collectively walked at least double that around 150kms!
In terms of money raised, not all money has been logged in though the team fundraising page and we raised at least $500 which is great for a first effort. The Taranaki event organisers indicated at the end of the night that they hit their target of $100,000 with all the donations on the day so a great day out despite the conditions.
Thank you for the organiser Louise Waite for signing us up (and then ditching us haha to play in the hexangular!) Thank you to the Sheridans, the Haylocks, the Erbs, a couple of Louise's friends roped in early on (thank you Frances and Danial), the Slingers and Kerry Dwyer as well as Helene Masse and friend Donna Milner.
Great to see what this fundraiser is all about and possibilities to make it a feel good annual event for the Club with many many more members able to take part.
With so many families touched by cancer in one way or another – it is a great reminder to appreciate each other and the time that we have.
